1. Harrow: Vibrant Food & Florals, Vintage Shopping, Gardens

Harrow has vibrant fruit and vegetable and flower shops and stalls and a street market on the weekends giving great opportunities to photograph fresh seasonal produce including fruit, vegetables and flowers. Harrow also has second hand shops with vintage clothing and tableware and lush leafy surrounding gardens with amazing roses.

Tip: Go early in the morning for softer light and less people about. The weekends markets can be a busy time.

2. Shoreditch: Brightly Coloured Creative Street Art

Shoreditch has amazingly creative and brightly coloured street art from many International and local London street artists in all different forms such as painted wall murals, spray paintings, graffiti writing, paste up and sticker art as well as sculptures.

Tip: Take a Shoreditch Street Art Tour with Dave who is an expert on street art and photography.

3. Tower of London: Ravens, Wild Beasts, Wildflowers in the Moat

The Tower of London offers opportunities for taking iconic London photos such as of Ravens, statues of the Wild Beasts scattered throughout the grounds and wildflowers in the Moat. The area surrounding the Tower is also beautiful stretching along the River Thames where you can capture Tower Bridge, the Girl with a Dolphin Statue and Dragon boundary marker.

Tip: Go early in the morning and be patient as this is a busy area with many tourists – you may need to be prepared to wait your turn to take photos. If you intend to visit more than one Historic Royal Palace it is worth purchasing a Membership as this will give access to all the Palaces and allow skipping the ticketing queue at the Tower. The Moat is a great place for a rest and a picnic or go and check out the nearby Byward Kitchen and Bar at All Hallows by the Tower, London’s oldest church, which also has an amazing museum in the crypt complete with a preserved Roman era mosaic floor.

4. Kensington Gardens: Queen Victoria & Diana Memorial Statues, Italian Gardens

Kensington Gardens is a parkland with many photo opportunities including the area surrounding Kensington Palace where there is a Statue of Queen Victoria, the Round Pond with ducks, a Memorial to Diana Princess of Wales in the Sunken Garden and the beautiful fountains and ponds of the Italian Gardens.

Tip: Watch the reflections on the ponds they can be amazing and really add something unique to your photos. Fast shutter speed to capture birds and fountains. You can walk to other attractions inside Kensington Gardens including Kensington Palace and the free North and South Serpentine Galleries. The Italian Gardens Café is a good spot for a rest.

5. Sloane Square: Floral Installations for Flowers in Fashion, Chelsea in Bloom

Sloane Square businesses host floral installations as part of Chelsea in Bloom and these amazing sculptures made of flowers and other plants were this year in the theme of Flowers in Fashion. The winning entry from Trinny London was a giant sewing kit including scissors made from flowers, other installations included women wearing beautifully decorated crinolines made from coloured roses, a jumping horse and a top hat tree.

Tip: Patience – be prepared to wait to take photos and watch out for your gear it can be super busy with visitors and other photographers. I visited Sloane Square on my way to and from Chelsea Physic Garden and The Physic Garden Café which is a great spot to have lunch after doing a Chelsea Physic Garden Tour.

6. Kew Royal Botanic Gardens: Waterlilies, Palm House, Rose Gardens

Kew Royal Botanic Gardens is large and contains the Kew Palace as well as numerous gardens. I visited the Waterlily House which has beautiful Waterlily flowers in bright colours and giant lily pads. The Palm House contains many tropical plants including a Titan Arum when I visited. The Rose Gardens contain many types of roses and there is a Historical Rose Garden with Dog Roses – this historical rose garden had the most amazing rose aroma.

Tip: Reflections in the Waterlily House are beautiful as is the quality of the light diffused through the glass house. It can get busy in the Waterlily House so be patient as you may need to wait your turn. Use fast shutter speed for capturing bumble bees on flowers. You can walk to Kew Palace which is located within the grounds of the gardens. The Orangery is a good place to have a rest.
